How do I show love? I think it depends on the person. I find myself reflecting on giving my all to my daughter, making home a happy place for my husband to come home to, and just praying for genuine love to be shown to those who need it!

My husband and I like to celebrate Valentine's Day and each other all year long. Small notes, small gifts, spending quality time together are just some of the ways we do that. With my students, I strive to consistently give meaningful affirmations to each of them and encourage them to do the same. For Valentine's Day each student makes a homemade Valentine with an affirmation for each classmate. It is so special.

I've found over the years, that the best thing I can do for those I love (especially when they are struggling with something) is to just really, truly listen and respond with thoughtful questions versus trying to find a way to fix things. I try to show love in all I do all year round. I love my husband, daughter, and grand children. Add to that my wonderful dog and cats, the children I teach, and many of my friends and family. I show love by taking an extra minute to brighten someone's day. Give a smile, tell a joke, ask how they are (and wait for a real answer) or even draw a picture on the note to the librarian when I take books when she is away from her desk. Just a little extra time to show someone I care.
I show love in many ways, like most people, but my favorite, and easiest, way to show love is by smiling and saying hello to any and everyone I pass. You never know what a smile may mean to a stranger. Smiles are contagious and help the soul shine. :)
